Border Collie Breeding Plans

09/03/2020

Wish the border collie has now been mated and will be scanned this week to see if we are due any puppies and a slight guess at numbers. All work is done to keep her in a happy mental state and that her nutritional and health needs are met.

wish passed her eye screening on 16/01/2020 and was mated shortly after. the stud dog is a merle who is ISDS by merit which proves to me that her has all the makings of a good working dog and once i met him i totally fell in love. will keep you up dated on progress hopefully later this week.

Plans are inplace for wish to be mated this year unfortunately one of the spitz is going to be mated first and has come into season after tricking me with her last very late season and now has come in early!!! we have to do the spitz mating as the stud dog is old and the gene pool is very limited with him having only 2 puppies that are not part of any breeding plans the chance cannot be taken that we loose a good healthy line. The spitz breed as a whole is in a bit of a mess breeding wise with only 2 puppies registered half way through the year. I'm really in a pickle as wish is getting older and close to breeding retirement.

I will only have one litter at a time as i like to give them the best start i can so that means 10 weeks of hard work after years of planning.

The lucky boy is a working ISDS registered Blue merle, with little offspring (that is a plus to me) but what he has produced are turning out to be easily trained and handled by junior herding handlers and adults, proving sound temperaments and work ethic, like all dogs i use he is fully health tested and his line has been well studied to check for any links to epilepsy.

Wish will be eye screened again very soon with the hope of her having a season near to the end of the year ideally id like 10 weeks minimum between her a spike the klein and if she sticks to the rules then i should be mating her in the new year so spring babies my be another year i have to miss crufts!

Please feel free to express interest in this litter, i do have a sort of waiting list but this is not first come first served, i will keep everyone on it updated then once the puppies start to become little people and i know what i would like to keep then the rest are picked to fit new homes. This has worked extremely well in the past and luckily the pups that people wanted fit into the new families well. a good example of what i mean is a lady wanted a bitch because she had a dog and was worried about having another male, she also owned a terrier bitch, after much discussion we felt that a male that was a bit of a clown would be the best match and she went off with a little boy.this has been a fantastic move as the other male has now got a play mate, they are over the moon with the choice, my personal worry was the terrier and a strong bitch puppy could end badly but at over 18 months the 3 dogs are getting on great guns. I am no expert on puppy picking but i will discuss each situation with each new home so we can come up with the best puppy to fit in to their lives, i will have a good idea on who is strong and who is the joker, etc. soo fingers crossed we will have more news on puppies and health test in the near future.

Lastly i do not publicies my choice of stud dog until i have a scan to prove we have puppies on the way, this is for many reasons.
